About Us

I have always had a deep affection for cooking and baking. As a small child, I would have my mother bring a chair over to the stove so I could stand on it and watch her prepare all kinds of dishes, from arroz con pollo to matzo ball soup. My mother was born in Havana, Cuba, and my father in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From a very young age, I was exposed to many different cuisines and discovered that baking and cooking took me to my happy place.

Today, I find myself leaning toward the ethnic foods my mom didn’t make — bagels, bialys, rugelach, chopped liver, smoked salmon, and sourdough bread. Living on the Connecticut shoreline, I miss a great bagel, an authentic sourdough boule, and the plethora of toppings that go along with them. Which is why I’m excited about opening Duby’s Bagels and Bakery in Old Saybrook. I love to share, so I look forward to welcoming NY transplants, newbies, and everyone else to this little bit of NYC heaven.
